Between Fragments

Series of personal artworks - collage and mixed media on paper

Collage artwork made with hand-painted paper and newspaper cutouts, featuring a cityscape and a person shouting in the foreground.
OVERVIEW

This series of artworks began with moving pieces of hand-painted paper across a surface.

There is no fixed composition or story in mind. Instead, the work grows through experimentation. Fragments are cut, tear, layered, and rearranged until unexpected relationships begin to emerge.

A shape suggests a hill. A patch of colour becomes water.

A figure appears, and slowly, an entire landscape emerges.

For me, collage is a way of thinking. The act of searching for the right position for each fragment is like the search for meaning itself. The image is discovered rather than planned.

The worlds that emerge feel suspended between memory, dream, and imagination. They are emotional landscapes, where the outside world becomes a reflection of an inner one.

The figures move through these spaces without a clear destination. Sometimes they seem playful and free, at other times they appear restless. Rather than telling a specific story, they evoke a state of searching. They invite us to recognise emotions we know but cannot always describe.

The slow process of arranging fragments reminds us that every image is built from scattered pieces, much like our own lives, shaped by memories, experiences, joy, and suffering.
